Into the Mist

The year stretches into the future like a shroud of mist, obscuring the road ahead. We have no idea what potholes, hairpin turns, mountain peaks and deep valleys may lie between us and the destination of the year's end. Will the road be smooth or deeply rutted? Will I stumble and fall? Will I succeed in getting to my destinations, or do You have other plans that will lead us on detours, up blind alleys, or turning around in a cul-de-sac?

We have dreams for this coming year. We have plans for a semester in the Philippines, a trip to Maine, another trip abroad later in the year, and getting my book for teen girls to the presses. Yet my vision is still obscured, and I do not know if my destinations equal those God has for me.

Lord, as I embark on a new year, let me always be conscious of two things in my journey. (1) You are leading me. Whether the path is rugged and treacherous or long and tedious, I need to follow. You will never forsake me. (2) The people along my path are eternal beings. You are allowing me to meet them. Let me excel in blessing others as I follow You into those relationships.

So here we are. And here we go into the mist of 2024.
